Do You Ever...

So a few weeks ago a friend of mine had a little contest on her blog. She put a list of Do You Evers... (I'll tell you what a "do you ever" is in a minute)on her blog and asked people to contribute and she would give a prize for the best one. A chocolate prize to be exact. So I of course wanted to contribute so I could possibly win a chocolate prize (who doesn't want free chocolate?). However, I never got the chance, I think I was so concerned about it being deep and meaningful that I never actually sat and wrote anything to her. So I missed my opportunity.
So a couple of nights ago, my baby woke up at 5:30 am and I went in his room and rocked him. As I was sitting there my mind was suddenly very clear and I thought of a whole bunch of Do You Evers... They aren't deep and meaningful, just simple and true. So I thought that I should share them and see what all of you are thinking in your rare moments of clarity. I would love to promise a chocolate surprise for the best, but since I don't have clarity that often I would probably forget to do it anyway, so lets just share our Do You Evers... and buy ourselves some chocolate. So Lesli, this is for you, thanks for the idea and I'm sorry I didn't participate in your contest, but I would love to hear some more of your Do You Evers...

Do You Ever....
- watch your husband wrestle with your kids and think that this is one of the best memories your children will have of their father in their childhood?

-listen as your kids fight and just let them duke it out without intervening, secretly cheering for one particular child?

-hide a 5 lb. bag of peanut M&M's so nobody in your home can have them but you, and if the kids happen to discover them you immediately find a new, even more secret spot to hide them because that is just something that you won't share?

-wake up ticked off because your baby is awake and crying at 5:30 am, so you rock him in hopes that he will fall back asleep, and you actually find the moment to be incredibly enjoyable and thought provoking and end up cherishing it?

So let me hear your Do You Evers... I can't wait to see what everybody else has to say.

I hope this one isnt too mean but do you ever wish you could mute your kids when they are screaming in public at the tops of thier lungs?

I love the kids fighting one. I do this largely because I am tired of telling them to stop fighting so I let them go at it. I do have more sympathy for Matix because he's younger.

Do you ever agree to let your kids bathe or even shower & bring whatever toys they want so that you can have them contained to play for a long as they will stay in there? This works for me- I can clean and know that they are not making messes in the next room because they love the tub.

Do you ever stay in your pjs all day and lay on the couch to catch up on Tivo because you can (your mom isn't there to tell you otherwise), let the kids do whatever and then right before your husband gets home do a quick clean & get dressed so that it looks like you actually did something that day? The days that I have nothing going on are rare but it's nice to spend them doing nothing!

kristi, yes i do--regarding all of your very insightful "do you evers"! here is one for you--do you ever wish you could go back to your wedding weekend and attend your own wedding but as a guest so you could spend all that time with your really great friends who come to celebrate with you. having all those important people together on that weekend would be something i would want to redo but this time just not be the bride with things to do.
do you ever wonder how you might be different if you grew up someplace other than where you did?
do you ever have your children come up to you in the evening and have them say, "mom, i am really tired. can i just go to bed?"--and it is only 6:30pm! (this happened to me but they have been sick--so there is the disclaimer for it!)
do you ever crave one slice of pumpkin pie so you make one--eat the one slice (o.k. maybe two) and then take the rest to your good friend who you know will help you get rid of the evidence!--thanks goes out to sarah for that one.
fun stuff, kristi--i guess i better go get myself some chocolate, right?
